RICA

COMMUNICATION-RELATED INFORMATION ACT

The Regulation of Interception of Communications and Provision of Communication-Related Information Act (RICA) intends to regulate the interception of certain communications, the monitoring of certain signals and radio frequency spectrums and the provision of certain communication-related information. The RICA also prohibits the provision of telecommunication services which do not have the capability to be intercepted and provides for the costs to be borne by certain telecommunications service providers.

Our advisory services

We have gained extensive industry and regulatory experience working with the RICA legislation. Further, being immersed in the regulatory environment has enabled us to form close relationships with the relevant government and regulatory authorities. This has enabled us to provide our clients with pragmatic advice on complex issues.

Our team of experts have guided clients on law enforcement and ministerial engagements to ensure compliance with RICA legislation. We provide counsel on commercial agreements that consider RICA compliance, with a specific focus on the telecommunications industry. This is particularly relevant in cases where mobile network operators collaborate with third-party agents and resellers for marketing and selling products and services.
